JP Nadda Pays Tribute to Folk Legend Sharda Sinha in Patna
Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party National President, JP Nadda, visited the home of the late Sharda Sinha, a celebrated folk singer, in Patna. Sharda Sinha, known as the ‘Bihar Kokila,’ passed away at 72 due to septicemia at AIIMS, Delhi. Her last rites were conducted with full state honors. She was battling multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer, since 2018.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed that her passing is an “irreparable loss” to the music world, highlighting her contributions to Bhojpuri and Maithili folk music, especially her Chhath songs. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and other leaders, including Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, also paid their respects.
Sharda Sinha, a veteran since the 1970s, was a cultural ambassador for Bihar’s traditional music. She was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2018 and a National Film Award for her contributions to the arts.
