JP Nadda Meets Former President Ram Nath Kovind and Reviews Drug Regulations
On Wednesday, JP Nadda, the National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), met with former President Ram Nath Kovind in New Delhi.
Earlier in the day, Nadda, who is also the Union Health Minister, reviewed the regulation of drugs, cosmetics, and medical devices. He emphasized that India needs a world-class regulatory framework to match its global reputation as the ‘Pharmacy of the World’.
Nadda stated, “For India to become the global leader in drug regulation to match our global reputation of ‘Pharmacy of the World’, we need to have a world-class regulatory framework matching our scale of operations and international expectations.”
The meeting was attended by Union Health Secretary Apurva Chandra, Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) Rajeev Singh Raghuvanshi, and senior officers of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) and Union Health Ministry.
Nadda highlighted the need for CDSCO to create a roadmap with timelines to achieve global standards. He stressed that the upscaling should be system-based, focusing on uniformity, technical upgrades, and a futuristic approach.
He also emphasized the importance of transparency in CDSCO’s operations and the need for continuous dialogue with the drugs and medical devices industry to meet quality expectations and standards.
Nadda concluded, “Our focus should be on developing mechanisms that ensure ease of doing business for the drugs industry within the regulatory requirements. For this, CDSCO needs to be a user-friendly organization with state-of-the-art facilities matching global standards.”
