JP Duminy Becomes Head Coach of Sharjah Warriorz for ILT20 Season 3
Sharjah [UAE], September 3: The Sharjah Warriorz have announced that former South African cricketer JP Duminy will be their head coach for the third season of the International League T20 (ILT20). Duminy takes over from Johan Botha, who led the team in the second season.
JP Duminy, who was the batting coach for the Warriorz in the previous season, is one of the most experienced players in T20 cricket. The 40-year-old left-handed batter has played 345 matches, scoring 8,331 runs with a strike rate over 120. He is also a skilled right-arm off-break bowler with 99 wickets to his name.
Duminy has played in various franchise leagues, including the IPL, CPL, and Pakistan Super League. He has been part of teams like Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals, Barbados Tridents, and Islamabad United.
Earlier in 2023, Duminy was appointed as the batting coach for the South African men’s white-ball cricket teams, where the team performed exceptionally well at the ODI World Cup in India. He has also served as the Head Coach for the Paarl Royals in the SA20 league and the Boland Rocks’ provincial team.
Speaking about his new role, Duminy said, “I am delighted to take up the challenge of being the Head Coach with the Sharjah Warriorz. This is an excellent set-up, which is vibrant and full of optimism and ideas for the upcoming season.
