Jordan’s Minister of Tourism, Makram Mustafa A. Queisi, visited New Delhi to assure that Jordan is safe for tourists despite the Middle East crisis. He aims to double the number of Indian tourists to Jordan.
Safety in Jordan
Queisi emphasized that Jordan remains strong, resilient, and safe for tourists. He acknowledged that the ongoing Middle East conflict has affected the perception of safety, especially in the West, but he reassured that Jordan is different and safe.
Impact on Tourism
Queisi noted that while the number of Western tourists has declined, tourism from the Arab world remains unaffected. Western tourists make up 16% of Jordan’s tourism, while 60% comes from the Arab world.
India-Jordan Relations
Queisi highlighted the strong trade relations between India and Jordan, particularly in the phosphate, potash, and garment industries. He mentioned that Indian investors play a significant role in Jordan’s economy.
Future Plans
During his visit, Queisi plans to promote Jordan as a wedding destination and mentioned that Indian film industry actors are shooting in Jordan. He also aims to resume direct flights between New Delhi and Amman.
