Jordan’s Ayman Safadi Speaks on Gaza Conflict in Athens

Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, announced that Jordan will not send troops to Gaza to replace Israeli forces. He made this statement during a joint press conference in Athens with Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis.

Safadi urged all parties to work towards a just deal that ensures a permanent ceasefire and the release of all Israeli and Palestinian prisoners. He highlighted the humanitarian catastrophe caused by the aggression on Gaza and called for efforts to stop it.

In response to questions about peace in the region and US President Joe Biden’s plan, Safadi expressed support for a ceasefire and appreciated the efforts of Egypt, Qatar, and the United States. However, he noted that Israeli Prime Minister’s stance on a temporary truce contradicts Biden’s initiative.

Safadi emphasized the need for a comprehensive peace plan based on a two-state solution, including the West Bank and East Jerusalem. He warned of the real and increasing danger of expanding the war and called for respect for international law and the UN Charter.
