Joe Root Joins Paarl Royals for 2025 SA20 Season
Paarl [South Africa], July 20: The Paarl Royals, a franchise owned by the Royals Sports Group, announced on Friday that Joe Root, one of England’s finest batters, will join their team for the 2025 SA20 season. The 33-year-old veteran cricketer will be representing his second Royals franchise, having played for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL in 2023.
Root is currently playing in England’s second Test match against the West Indies at Trent Bridge. His vast experience is expected to benefit the Boland Park-based franchise and help younger South African players develop.
Royals’ Director of Cricket, Kumar Sangakkara, expressed his excitement about the signing, stating, “We all know what a phenomenal player Joe Root is, and to have him back at the Royals is a great feeling. He has been a great contributor to all the teams he has represented over the years and has also proven to be a valuable all-rounder with his bowling and fielding attributes.”
Sangakkara added, “As we saw during IPL 2023 and have also seen over the years, he is also a great team man and has the ability to help his teammates develop both on and off the field. We are looking forward to using his expertise, his personality, his brains, and also his performances on the field to strive towards a successful SA20 season in 2025.”
Joe Root has played over 100 T20 matches in his career, scoring 2432 runs, taking 51 catches, and picking up 27 wickets with an economy rate of 8.47.
