JMM’s Supriyo Bhattacharya Criticizes BJP Over Illegal Immigration Claims in Jharkhand
Supriyo Bhattacharya, the Central General Secretary of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), has criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for discussing ‘communal demography’ ahead of the upcoming elections in Jharkhand. He accused the BJP of creating confusion about illegal Bangladeshi immigration in the state.
Bhattacharya explained that the Central Government recently filed an affidavit in the High Court regarding infiltration in Jharkhand. He noted that the affidavit does not confirm the presence of Bangladeshi immigrants in the Santhal Pargana area, contrary to BJP’s claims. The affidavit used Census 2011 as a basis, but there was no mention of Bangladeshi people living in the area.
He further stated, “A state of confusion is being created in Jharkhand. Because elections are coming, BJP does not have any issues, that is why communal demography is being talked about. What kind of game is going on, why is the court being brought into this. And what is going on in the court is being discussed in the party office.”
In July, the Jharkhand High Court ordered the state government to take action against illegal Bangladeshi immigrants who infiltrated through the Santhal Pargana region. The BJP has targeted the JMM government ahead of the Jharkhand election, which is set to take place later this year. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has yet to announce the dates.
