Flood Situation in Assam

Jitendra Singh Alwar, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) In-Charge for Assam, has criticized the BJP government for their handling of the flood situation in Assam. He stated that despite promises from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, and Himanta Biswa Sarma, the floods continue to affect the region every year.

Impact on People

Alwar highlighted that 30 lakh people have been affected and 70 people have died due to the floods. He mentioned that people are struggling without clean water and essential food supplies like rice and pulses.

Congress’s Response

A team from AICC and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) visited the flood-hit areas in Morigaon district to meet the victims. Alwar mentioned that Rahul Gandhi has instructed Congress workers to help the affected people as much as possible.

Political Criticism

Alwar criticized the ruling party leaders for their absence during the crisis, despite their active presence during election campaigns. He expressed his disappointment and stated that the Congress will raise this issue in the Vidhan Sabha and Parliament.

Statements from Other Leaders

Assam Congress President Bhupen Kumar Borah also criticized the government, stating that more than 90 people have died and 30 lakh are suffering due to the floods. He mentioned that the government is not taking adequate measures to address the situation.

Current Flood Situation

Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to assess the flood situation. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) reported that over 5 lakh people across 18 districts are affected, with Cachar being the worst-hit district. The Brahmaputra and other rivers are flowing above danger levels, and over 58,000 people are in relief camps.
