In Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir, the 13th battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) celebrated the 10th International Yoga Day with a special participant, Jimmy, an Indian pariah dog. Trained by the NDRF, Jimmy performed yoga to raise awareness about the practice.

Parveen Singh, Assistant Commandant of the 13th Battalion NDRF Udhampur, said, “On the occasion of International Yoga Day, for the last 15 days we are regularly involved in Yoga Day activities. The most important aspect is that we have involved a stray dog. To raise awareness of Yoga we have included stray dog in the activity so that people realise that if a stray dog can perform it with ease then definitely the common man should do it. Trained dogs have high IQ levels and can pick up easily but the stray dog took more time to learn yoga.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the celebrations of the 10th International Day of Yoga at Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar. This year’s event underscores Yoga’s profound impact on young minds and bodies. The celebration aims to unite thousands in the practice of Yoga, promoting health and wellness on a global scale. This year’s theme, “Yoga for Self and Society,” emphasizes yoga’s vital role in fostering both individual well-being and societal harmony.

Since 2015, the Prime Minister has led the International Day of Yoga (IDY) celebrations at various iconic locations, including Kartavya Path in Delhi, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Ranchi, Lucknow, Mysuru and even the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
