The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its first list of 66 candidates for the upcoming Jharkhand assembly elections. Former Chief Ministers Champai Soren and Babulal Marandi are among the candidates, with Soren contesting from Saraikella and Marandi from Dhanwar. The BJP is contesting in alliance with the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU), Janata Dal (United), and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), covering 68 seats.

Meanwhile, the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led alliance, part of the INDIA bloc, has finalized its seat-sharing agreement. Chief Minister Hemant Soren announced that JMM and Congress will contest 70 of the 81 seats, with discussions ongoing for the remaining seats with other INDIA alliance parties.

In a significant development, former BJP MLA Kedar Hajra and ex-AJSU vice president Umakant Rajak have joined JMM, boosting the party ahead of the elections. The nomination process for the first phase has begun, with elections scheduled for November 13 and 20, and results to be announced on November 23.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, speaking at an event in Ranchi, emphasized the need for a caste census and criticized the unequal wealth distribution in India. He highlighted the lack of representation for marginalized communities in various sectors, including Bollywood.
