Jeffrey Vandersay’s Amazing Bowling Helps Sri Lanka Beat India in Colombo
Sri Lankan spinner Jeffrey Vandersay achieved the third-best bowling figures by a spinner against India in ODI cricket, taking 6/33 in 10 overs during the second ODI in Colombo.
In the game, Vandersay’s performance was crucial as he dismantled the Indian middle order. India, chasing 241 runs, started strong at 97/0, but Vandersay’s spell reduced them to 147/6. India was eventually bowled out for 208 runs in 42.2 overs.
Earlier, Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first, scoring 240/9 in their 50 overs. Key contributions came from Avishka Fernando (40), Kamindu Mendis (40), and Dunith Wellalage (39). Washington Sundar (3/30) and Kuldeep Yadav (2/33) were the top bowlers for India.
During India’s run chase, Rohit Sharma (66) and Shubman Gill (35) provided a solid start with a 97-run partnership. However, Vandersay’s spell turned the game in Sri Lanka’s favor. Axar Patel (44) tried to fight back, but it wasn’t enough.
Skipper Charith Asalanka also contributed with the ball, taking 3/20. Sri Lanka now leads the series 1-0 with one game remaining. Vandersay was named ‘Player of the Match’ for his outstanding performance.
