Jayen Mehta Addresses False Claims About Amul Ghee at Tirupati Temple

Jayen Mehta, Managing Director of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), announced that an FIR has been filed at the cybercrime branch of Ahmedabad Police against a misinformation campaign. The campaign falsely claimed that Amul supplied ghee containing animal fat to the Tirupati Balaji temple.

In an interview, Mehta stated, “In Andhra Pradesh, the ghee used in the Tirupati temple was found with adulteration. Some people tried to propagate false information by saying that ghee to TTD was supplied by Amul.” He emphasized that Amul has never supplied its products to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) and assured that Amul products undergo stringent quality checks.

Amul issued a statement on September 20, clarifying that it had never supplied ghee to TTD. The statement highlighted that Amul Ghee is made from high-quality pure milk fat and passes through rigorous quality checks.

The controversy began when Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu alleged that substandard ingredients, including animal fat, were used in the preparation of Tirupati laddus during the previous YSRCP government. Former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy accused Naidu of politicizing religious matters and defended the quality control measures in place.

Union Health Minister JP Nadda has requested a full report on the issue and assured that the matter will be investigated according to food safety standards. YSRCP chief Jagan Mohan Reddy plans to write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, claiming that Naidu has twisted the facts.
