Jayant Chaudhary Opposes Name Display Order for Food Shops During Kanwar Yatra
Union Minister of State and Rashtriya Lok Dal Chief Jayant Chaudhary has voiced his opposition to the Uttar Pradesh government’s directive for food shops to display their owners’ names along the Kanwar Yatra route. He described the decision as poorly thought out and emphasized the importance of community harmony and tradition.
Jayant Chaudhary, part of the Modi-led National Democratic Alliance government, stated, “Any decision shouldn’t cause harm to the sense of well-being of the community and harmony in the community. All those who go on Kanwar yatra and people who serve them, all are same.”
Janata Dal (United) leader KC Tyagi also criticized the order, noting that no such directive exists in Bihar, Rajasthan, or Jharkhand. He urged the Uttar Pradesh government to review or revoke the order.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav joined the opposition, urging the court to take suo-motto cognizance of the matter.
The Kanwar Yatra, originating from Haridwar, is a symbol of Hindu-Muslim harmony. Muslim families in Haridwar dedicate months to crafting Kanwars for Shiva devotees. Istkar, a Kanwad artisan, shared, “We have been doing this since childhood. It brings me joy to be deeply involved in serving Bhole Baba.” Another artisan, Abrar, added, “It’s all about love and brotherhood; the entire Hindu community is like family to us.”
