New Delhi, India – The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary and newly-elected International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman Jay Shah praised Team India for their fantastic start in this year’s red-ball season. Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, India secured a massive 280-run victory over Bangladesh in the first Test match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Jay Shah’s Praise

Jay Shah took to his official X handle to commend the team’s performance. He highlighted Ravichandran Ashwin’s calculated knock in the first innings and his match-winning spell in the second. Shah also praised Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant, and Jasprit Bumrah for their contributions.

Irfan Pathan’s Comments

Former India cricketer Irfan Pathan also praised the team, stating that Rohit Sharma’s side was too good for Bangladesh. He emphasized Ashwin’s value as an all-round player in Test matches in India.

“India was too good for Bangladesh. Well done boys. In test matches in India Ashwin is the most valuable all round player for team India,” Pathan wrote on X.

Match Highlights

Bangladesh won the toss and chose to field first. India struggled initially, with the top-order collapsing to 34/3. However, a 62-run partnership between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant brought India back into the game. A crucial 199-run partnership between Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja helped India reach 376 runs in 91.2 overs.

Bangladesh’s first innings saw them losing wickets regularly, with Shakib Al Hasan, Litton Das, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz putting up a brief fight. Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep were instrumental in breaking Bangladesh’s batting, and they were bundled out for 149 runs.

In their second innings, India again lost their top-order quickly but centuries from Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant helped them reach 287/4 before declaring. Bangladesh was set a target of 515 runs to win. Despite a good start, Bangladesh was all out for 228 runs on the final day, with Ashwin and Jadeja taking key wickets.

Ravichandran Ashwin ended the innings with figures of 6/88, while Ravindra Jadeja took 3/58. Jasprit Bumrah also contributed with one wicket.
