New Delhi, India – The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary and newly-elected International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman Jay Shah congratulated India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja on achieving 300 wickets in Test cricket. Jadeja reached this milestone on the fourth day of the second Test match between India and Bangladesh in Kanpur.

During Bangladesh’s first inning, Jadeja took one wicket and gave away 28 runs in his 9.2-over spell. He dismissed Khaled Ahmed for a four-ball duck in the 75th over. Jadeja, 35, became the second quickest bowler to reach 300 Test wickets after Ravichandran Ashwin. Jadeja achieved this in 17428 balls, while Ashwin took 15636 balls.

Jay Shah praised Jadeja on his official X handle, highlighting his discipline and consistency with the ball as key factors in India’s success in Test matches. Shah wrote, “Congratulations @imjadeja for completing 300 wickets in Test match cricket. Your discipline and consistency with the ball have been pivotal in India’s dominant run in the longest format of the game.”

Jadeja made his Test debut in 2012 against England. Since then, he has played 73 matches and 138 innings, picking up 300 wickets at an economy rate of 2.47. He has also scored 3122 runs from 106 Test innings.

Recapping the match, India won the toss and chose to field first. The first day’s play ended at 107/3. No play occurred on day two due to rain and on day three due to a wet outfield. Play resumed on day four, with Shadman Islam and skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto contributing positively. Mominul Haque scored his 13th Test century, helping Bangladesh reach 233/10. Jasprit Bumrah was the standout bowler for India with 3/50, while Mohammed Siraj, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Akash Deep took two wickets each, and Jadeja took one.

India won the first Test by 280 runs, setting a target of 515 runs for Bangladesh and bowling them out for 234. Ravichandran Ashwin, Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, and Jasprit Bumrah were key players in India’s victory. India leads the two-match Test series 1-0.
