On August 29, former Australian coach John Buchanan congratulated Jay Shah on becoming the new Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Buchanan expressed hope that Shah, who is also the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), will prioritize all three formats of international cricket in the age of T20 franchise cricket.

Buchanan, who led Australia to World Cup victories in 2003 and 2007, spoke at the launch event of the ‘Ready Steady Go Kids’ program in partnership with CP Goenka International School and Sports Gurukul. He praised Shah’s decision-making skills and emphasized the importance of maintaining the balance between different cricket formats.

Jay Shah, who has been the BCCI Secretary since October 2019 and Chairman of the Asian Cricket Council since January 2021, will officially take on his new role as ICC Chairman on December 1, 2024.

Buchanan also shared his thoughts on the upcoming Border-Gavaskar series between India and Australia, starting November 22. He highlighted the physical and mental challenges players will face and noted that the series will be a test of endurance for both teams.

He mentioned that Australian pitches have become more bowler-friendly and praised Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah for his skills. Buchanan also discussed the strong line-ups of both teams, including players like Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, Mohammed Shami, and Ravindra Jadeja.

The series will feature five Tests, including a day-night match at Adelaide Oval and the traditional Boxing Day Test at Melbourne Cricket Ground. The final Test will be held at Sydney Cricket Ground, promising an exciting conclusion to the series.
