Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who was named Player of the Tournament, expressed his overwhelming emotions after India’s thrilling seven-run victory over South Africa in the ICC T20 World Cup final. Bumrah said, “Usually, I am the one who tries to keep my emotions in check and get the job done but today I do not have many words, I do not usually cry after a game but the emotions are taking over.”

A fine exhibition of death bowling by Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya, along with stupendous knocks by Virat Kohli and Axar Patel, helped India secure their second ICC T20 World Cup title. India ended their ICC trophy drought by beating South Africa by seven runs in a thrilling final at Barbados.

In the match, India won the toss and opted to bat first. After being reduced to 34/3, a counter-attacking partnership between Virat Kohli (76) and Axar Patel (47) restored India’s position. A 57-run stand between Virat and Shivam Dube took India to 176/7 in their 20 overs. South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj and Anrich Nortje were the top bowlers.

In the run chase of 177 runs, South Africa was reduced to 12/2. A 58-run partnership between Quinton de Kock and Tristan Stubbs brought them back into the game. Heinrich Klaasen’s half-century threatened to take the game away from India. However, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya made a fine comeback in the death overs, keeping South Africa to 169/8 in their 20 overs.

Virat Kohli secured the ‘Player of the Match’ for his performance. By securing their first ICC title since the Champions Trophy in 2013, India has ended their ICC trophy drought.
