A 10-year-old Japanese boy was tragically killed in a stabbing incident in Shenzhen, China, on September 18. The attack has caused fear among the Japanese community in China. The Chinese authorities have not disclosed the motive behind the crime.

A man in his 30s, who works in trade in Shenzhen, expressed his anxiety about living in the city. In response to the incident, security has been increased at Japanese residential areas in Guangzhou, near Shenzhen. Guards equipped with stab-proof clothing and shields are now on standby whenever a school bus arrives.

Japanese Ambassador to China, Kanasugi Kenji, visited Dalian, urging local authorities to enhance safety measures for Japanese nationals and schools. Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida demanded an explanation from China, calling the attack a ‘despicable crime.’ He emphasized the need for the Chinese side to ensure the safety of Japanese people.

Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Yoko Kamikawa also condemned the incident, expressing deep regret over the attack on a child. The incident has sparked outrage in both Japanese and Chinese communities. A Shenzhen resident laid a white rose outside the Japanese school, expressing heartbreak and shame over the violence.

Another resident criticized the long-term education of hatred, while a Chinese blogger highlighted the rise of anti-Japan rhetoric online, warning of its real-world consequences.
