Jammu-Kashmir Election Commission Suspends 23 Officials and Seizes Rs 130 Crores During Assembly Polls
The Jammu-Kashmir State Election Commission has taken strict actions during the assembly polls. A total of 23 government officials were suspended, and Rs 130 crores were seized for violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) guidelines.
According to the state election commission office, 20 employees were transferred to different offices due to complaints of favoritism towards a political party. Additionally, six contractual and ad hoc employees were disengaged for MCC violations.
The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Jammu and Kashmir, PK Pole, shared that enforcement agencies seized Rs 130 crores, with the Police Department making the highest seizure of Rs 107.50 crores. Other significant seizures included Rs 9.88 crores by the Central Goods and Services Tax Department and Rs 8.03 crores by the State Goods and Services Tax Department.
PK Pole also mentioned that 7,088 permissions were granted for various political activities, including rallies, processions, and door-to-door canvassing. Out of 1,263 MCC violations reported, 600 cases have been resolved, while 364 are still under investigation. Additionally, 115 notices have been issued against candidates, political parties, and media houses for MCC violations.
Enforcement agencies registered 32 FIRs related to carrying drugs, cash, and illegal liquor during the election period.
