The third phase of voting in Jammu and Kashmir saw a cumulative voter turnout of 44.08% as of 1 pm on Tuesday, according to the Election Commission of India.

Voting began at 7 am across 40 constituencies in seven districts and will conclude at 6 pm. This phase has recorded the highest voter turnout compared to the previous two phases, which saw 41.17% and 36.93% turnouts by 1 pm respectively.

In the first phase, the total voter turnout was 61.13%, with Kishtwar recording the highest at 80%. The second phase saw a total turnout of 57.31%.

At least 415 candidates are contesting in the third phase. The elections involve a multi-party contest for 90 seats. The National Conference and Congress have formed an alliance, while the People’s Democratic Party and Bharatiya Janata Party are also major contenders. The votes will be counted on October 8.
