Jammu and Kashmir Elections: National Conference and Congress Announce Seat-Sharing Pact
In Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, the National Conference and Congress have agreed on a seat-sharing arrangement for the upcoming assembly elections. The National Conference will contest 51 out of 90 seats, while Congress will contest 32 seats. The two parties will also have a ‘friendly contest’ on five seats. Additionally, one seat each has been left for CPI(M) and Panthers Party.

Jammu and Kashmir Congress chief Tariq Hameed Karra announced the seat-sharing pact, emphasizing that the agreement was reached by understanding each other’s sensitivities. He mentioned that there were difficulties on some seats, leading to the decision for a friendly contest in a disciplined manner.

Congress leader KC Venugopal stated that the alliance aims to save the soul of Jammu and Kashmir and form a government that is friendly to the people. He emphasized that the BJP is trying to destroy the region’s essence, and the INDIA alliance’s main objective is to counter this.
BJP’s Candidate List
Meanwhile, the BJP released its first list of candidates for the elections, featuring 15 candidates from various communities and castes. The list includes Syed Showkat Gayoor Andrabi from Pampore, Arshid Bhat from Rajpora, Javed Ahmad Qadri from Shopian, and several others. Shagun Parihar is the only woman on the list, contesting from Kishtwar.
Election Schedule
Polling in Jammu and Kashmir will be conducted in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1. The counting of votes will take place on October 4. Voting will be held for 90 assembly constituencies, with 88.06 lakh electors in the Union Territory.
