Jammu and Kashmir Elections: National Conference and Congress Alliance Lead
As of Tuesday morning, the Election Commission of India has reported that the Jammu Kashmir National Conference and Congress alliance is leading with 52 seats in the Jammu and Kashmir elections. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is currently leading with 26 seats. The counting process is underway, with 3-5 rounds completed in most of the 90 constituencies.
The election results will determine the future of several former ministers, including Tara Chand, Muzaffar Baig, Raman Bhalla, Basharat Bukha, Omar Abdullah, Ravinder Raina, and Yousuf Tarigami. Jammu and Kashmir Congress Chief Tariq Hameed Karra expressed confidence in the alliance’s success, stating, “I have been maintaining that our mark will cross 50 in Jammu and Kashmir.” He also criticized the nomination of five MLA seats by the Lieutenant Governor, calling it “pre-meditated, pre-conceived, and pre-poll rigging.”
Karra emphasized the alliance’s mission to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. He is currently leading from the Central Shalteng Assembly constituency by a margin of 10,263 votes after nine rounds of counting.
