Raina stated that the BJP is expected to win around 35 seats and make a significant impact in Kashmir.

Optimism Among BJP Leaders

Former Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta and BJP leader Dr. Nirmal Singh echoed Raina’s optimism, predicting that the BJP will emerge as the largest party in the Union Territory. Dr. Singh emphasized that exit polls are not always accurate, and he expects the BJP to perform well.

Exit Poll Predictions

Despite the BJP’s confidence, various exit polls indicate a close contest. The TV-Today C-voter projections suggest the NC-Congress alliance could win 40-48 seats, while the BJP might secure 27-32 seats. The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) led by Mehbooba Mufti is projected to win 6-12 seats.

According to Dainik Bhaskar, the NC-Congress alliance may win 35-40 seats, with the BJP getting 20-25 seats. The Axis My India poll predicts a hung assembly, with the NC-Congress slightly ahead and the BJP close behind.

Voter Turnout and Election Context

The Election Commission of India reported a 63.88% voter turnout in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. The Supreme Court had directed the Centre to hold these elections by September 30, 2024. The counting of votes is scheduled for October 8.
