Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], August 24: PK Pole, the Chief Electoral Officer of Jammu and Kashmir, announced that around 88 lakh voters will participate in the upcoming Assembly elections. The elections will be held in three phases: September 18, September 25, and October 1, with results announced on October 4.

Election Phases and Districts

The first phase on September 18 will cover seven districts, including four in South Kashmir and three in Doda. The second phase on September 23 will cover six districts, and the third phase on October 1 will cover seven districts.

Polling Arrangements

PK Pole mentioned that basic facilities will be available at all polling booths, with 209 new polling stations created. Separate queues and arrangements will be made for men, women, and the elderly. Webcasting will be conducted at every polling booth as per the Chief Election Commissioner’s directions.

Voter Demographics

Out of the 88 lakh voters, 44.89 lakh are male, 43.83 lakh are female, and 163 are transgender voters. The last date for filing nomination papers is August 27.

Political Alliances

The Congress and the National Conference have formed a pre-poll alliance, having previously contested the Lok Sabha elections together. The National Conference won two seats, while the Congress did not win any.

First Phase Constituencies

The first phase on September 18 will see 24 Assembly seats go to polls, including Pampore, Tral, Pulwama, Rajpora, Zainapora, Shopian, D H Pora, Kulgam, Devsar, Dooru, Kokernag (ST), Anantnag West, Anantnag, Srigufwara-Bijbehara, Shangus-Anantnag East, Pahalgam, Inderwal, Kishtwar, Padder-Nagseni, Bhadarwah, Doda, Doda West, Ramban, and Banihal.

The last Assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir was held in 2014. The counting of votes will take place on October 4.
