Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Debates Article 370 Restoration

The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly recently passed a resolution to restore Article 370, sparking significant political debate. J-K BJP President Sat Sharma expressed confidence that the resolution would not succeed as long as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are in power. He accused the National Conference of trying to distract people and disturb peace in the region.

BJP leader Ravinder Raina firmly stated that the BJP would never accept the agenda of the National Conference and Congress to restore Article 370, declaring it a part of history that cannot return.

The assembly session saw heated exchanges, with Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary proposing the resolution and Leader of the Opposition Sunil Sharma objecting. J-K Congress President Tariq Hameed Karra criticized the behavior of BJP MLAs, accusing them of disrespecting parliamentary practices.

Deputy CM Choudhary defended the resolution, stating it was meant to secure the future of J-K’s people, who have suffered since the special status was revoked in 2019. He highlighted issues like land and employment being taken by outsiders.

The session, which concludes on November 8, is part of the National Conference’s election manifesto promises to restore Article 370 and J-K’s statehood.
