Southport [UK], July 3: England and Lancashire pacer James Anderson delivered a stunning performance by taking seven wickets against Nottinghamshire in a County Championship Division One game. This match comes ahead of his final international appearance on July 10 against West Indies.

Nottinghamshire aimed to surpass Lancashire’s first innings score of 353, which was bolstered by skipper Keaton Jennings’ impressive 187 runs. However, Anderson’s exceptional bowling dismantled Nottinghamshire’s batting line-up, reducing them to 40/6. Despite Ben Slater’s fighting 64, Nottinghamshire was all out for 126, giving Lancashire a 227-run lead.

Player Performance
James Anderson 7/35 in 16 overs

Ben Slater 64 runs in 126 balls

In their second innings, Nottinghamshire was 84/2 at the end of day three, trailing by 143 runs.

Anderson’s Career and Future

This was Anderson’s first first-class game since March. With 700 wickets in 187 Tests, he is the third-most successful Test bowler ever. He also has 269 wickets in 194 ODIs and 18 wickets in 19 T20Is for England.

England men’s managing director, Rob Key, confirmed that Anderson will continue with the team as a mentor after his retirement. Anderson’s final match will be at Lord’s, where he made his Test debut against Zimbabwe.

Key stated, “Jimmy will continue in our set-up, and he will help as a bit more of a mentor. We’re trying to set up an elite coach development programme, which Jimmy wants to do, but we will have a look at the end of the summer.”

Anderson’s mastery in swing and reverse swing has made him a legend in red-ball cricket. Fans will bid farewell to him as a player at Lord’s, but his legacy will continue as he mentors the next generation of cricketers.
