Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness to Visit India

At the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of Jamaica Andrew Holness will pay an official visit to India from September 30 to October 3. This will be his first visit to India and the first bilateral visit by a Jamaican Prime Minister to India.

During his visit, Holness will hold delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Modi and call on President Droupadi Murmu and Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankar. He will also have the opportunity to meet other dignitaries and interact with trade and industry leaders. Several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed to boost bilateral cooperation.

India and Jamaica share strong historical and cultural linkages, including a shared colonial past, values of democracy and freedom, and a passion for cricket. This visit is expected to bolster bilateral relations, enhance economic cooperation, and solidify the longstanding bonds between Jamaica and India.

Earlier, on June 5, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar thanked his Jamaican counterpart Kamina Johnson Smith after she congratulated Prime Minister Modi on his third consecutive victory in the Lok Sabha elections. Jamaican PM Andrew Holness also congratulated PM Modi on his historic third term as India’s head of government.

In response, PM Modi thanked Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness and expressed his eagerness to work together for the welfare of the people of both countries.
