Jalandhar Police Busts Multi-State Bank Cheque Fraud Syndicate

The Jalandhar Commissionerate Police in Punjab has made a significant breakthrough by dismantling a multi-state bank cheque fraud syndicate. On Sunday, five individuals were arrested across three states.

Scam Spanned Six States

According to the police, the scam targeted six states: Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Karnataka. A total of 61 scams have been identified, and 19 bank accounts have been seized.

Police Statements

Jalandhar Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma stated, “In the preliminary investigation, it has been found that the network of the said accused is spread across six states. The first of which is Punjab, then Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Karnataka. The associates of the accused are spread across all the states. The accused get bank accounts opened by luring innocent people with their words. Then get the cheques deposited in them.”

Director General of Punjab Police, Gaurav Yadav, also took to social media site X to confirm the breakthrough, stating, “In a major breakthrough, Jalandhar Commissionerate Police dismantles multi-state bank cheque fraud syndicate, arresting five individuals from three states. Scams spanned in six states: Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Karnataka. 61 scams identified, 19 accounts seized, and incriminating items recovered. Punjab Police is committed to disrupting all cyber crimes and protecting citizens’ finances as per the directions of Hon’ble CM Bhagwant Mann.”
