On October 16, in Islamabad, Pakistan, leaders from various countries gathered for the 23rd Meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of Government. Among them were India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. They posed for a family photo alongside other leaders, including Mongolian Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai.

Jaishankar arrived in Pakistan for a two-day visit to attend the meeting. Upon his arrival at Rawalpindi airport, he was warmly welcomed by Ilyas Mehmood Nizami, Director General (South Asia) of Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Children in traditional attire greeted him with flower bouquets.

The meeting, chaired by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Sharif, focuses on the trade and economic agenda of the SCO. Pakistan assumed the rotating chair of the SCO Council of Heads of Government for 2023-24 at the previous meeting in Bishkek. The SCO, established on June 15, 2001, in Shanghai, includes Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan as its founding members.

SCO -: SCO stands for Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, which is a group of countries that work together on issues like security, trade, and economic cooperation. It was established in 2001.

Islamabad -: Islamabad is the capital city of Pakistan, where important government meetings and events often take place.

Rotating chair -: The rotating chair means that different member countries of the SCO take turns leading the organization for a certain period. Pakistan is leading for 2023-24.
