Jairam Ramesh Questions Lokpal’s Decision on PM Modi’s Remarks About Congress and Industrialists

New Delhi, India – Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has criticized the Lokpal after it rejected a plea seeking an investigation against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The plea was based on Modi’s remarks accusing Congress of taking money from industrialists Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani.

What Did PM Modi Say?

During an election campaign in Telangana’s Karimnagar on May 8, 2024, PM Modi questioned how much black money Congress had received from Ambani and Adani. He suggested that Congress should clarify these allegations to the public.

Lokpal’s Decision

The Lokpal, an anti-corruption institution, dismissed the complaint, stating that the speech was election propaganda and based on fictional facts. The order mentioned that the allegations were founded on unreal and unverifiable facts, thus lacking merit.

Jairam Ramesh’s Response

Jairam Ramesh took to his official X handle to question who would hold the Prime Minister accountable for his statements. He reiterated the demand for an investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Ramesh also took a jibe at the Lokpal, suggesting it had become a protector of the Prime Minister rather than an impartial body.
