Jaipur Mayor Somya Gurjar Sets New Rules for Meat Shops Ahead of Festival Season
Jaipur Greater Municipal Corporation Mayor Somya Gurjar announced new regulations for meat shops in Jaipur. Only those with a commercial license will be allowed to operate, and they must clearly indicate whether the meat is Jhatka or Halal to respect public sentiments.
Mayor Gurjar stated, “In the recent Executive Committee meeting, a proposal was passed unanimously by all our members that it is mandatory for the meat shops operating in Jaipur Greater Municipal Corporation to have a commercial license. It will also have to be indicated whether it is Jhatka or Halal so that no one’s public sentiments are hurt, no one has any kind of confusion.”
She emphasized the importance of clarity, saying, “Because even in our Constitution, everyone has the freedom to eat, there should be clarity in whatever they want to eat. So, keeping in mind the public sentiments, this decision was taken.”
A letter has been sent to public representatives in all 150 wards to identify legal and illegal shops. Mayor Gurjar added, “Ahead of the upcoming Shravan month, public sentiments should be respected, and places should be kept clean. During festival season, it is my responsibility to ensure cleanliness in holy places.”
Earlier today, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath mandated that food and beverage shops along Kanwar routes display the name and identity of the operator/owner to maintain the sanctity of the pilgrims’ faith. Additionally, action will be taken against those selling halal-certified products.
