Jaipur Foot US and BRUHUD Celebrate PM Narendra Modi’s 74th Birthday in New York
New York [US], September 19: Jaipur Foot US, a part of the world’s largest organization for the differently-abled, Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS), and BRUHUD, a major organization for seniors in New York, celebrated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 74th birthday on Tuesday.
PM Modi, born on September 17, 1950, in Gujarat, celebrated his birthday with a millet-based lunch. The event also honored BMVSS founder and Chief Patron, Padma Bhushan Dr. DR Mehta, who is on a ten-day visit to the United States.
The celebration took place at SAAR, an Indian restaurant near Times Square, known for introducing a millet menu last year. This initiative followed the United Nations declaring 2023 as the ‘International Year of Millets’ at PM Modi’s request.
Prem Bhandari, Chairman of Jaipur Foot US, praised PM Modi as India’s most ‘consequential’ Prime Minister, highlighting his strong relationships with both US and Russian leadership. Bhandari said, ‘We pray for his long and healthy life, as both India and the world need his leadership now more than ever.’
Bhandari also shared that BMVSS, founded by Dr. DR Mehta in 1975, has helped over 2.2 million differently-abled individuals across 43 countries through 109 free artificial limb fitment camps known as ‘Jaipur Foot.’ Out of these, 28 camps were sponsored by the Government of India under the ‘India for Humanity’ initiative.
He expressed gratitude to PM Modi for making BMVSS a partner in the ‘India for Humanity’ initiative, launched to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary. The Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, has organized 28 international camps, with the 29th camp scheduled in Mongolia. The Jaipur Foot team will depart for Mongolia on September 22.
