Jagdambika Pal Leads Efforts on Waqf Amendment Bill to Help Poor, Children, Women, and Minorities
New Delhi, India – Jagdambika Pal, the chairperson of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), announced on Thursday that the committee aims to create a Waqf Amendment Bill that will benefit the poor, children, women, and minorities. The JPC has invited three ministries to discuss the bill.
Jagdambika Pal stated, “Today there is an important meeting of JPC in which we have called the Minister of Urban Development, Ministry of Railways, and Ministry of Transport. We are talking to many stakeholders, including those outside Delhi, to ensure the bill serves its purpose in the health and education sectors.”
Congress MP K Suresh mentioned that various Muslim organizations have raised significant objections and are demanding the bill’s withdrawal. He submitted a memorandum of suggestions from these organizations to the JPC chairperson for consideration.
K Suresh said, “In Kerala, there is a huge objection from various Muslim organizations. They are demanding to totally withdraw this bill. Almost 25 organizations, including Jamaat-e-Federation and Sunni organizations, have submitted their proposals and amendment suggestions.”
The JPC on the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024 is holding its meeting on Wednesday and has invited three ministries to make presentations. Shiv Sena leader and JPC panel member Naresh Mhakse emphasized the importance of peaceful discussions without creating a ruckus.
Earlier, on August 30, the second meeting of the Joint Committee of Parliament, headed by MP Jagdambika Pal, was held at the Parliament House Annexe. The committee had called representatives from the All India Sunni Jamiyatul Ulama, Indian Muslims for Civil Rights, Uttar Pradesh Sunni Central Waqf Board, and Rajasthan Board of Muslim Waqf.
