Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni Discusses Ukraine Conflict with President Zelenskyy
Rome, Italy – Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stated on Saturday that India can play a role in resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict. She made these remarks after meeting with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Meloni emphasized, “China and India have a role to play in resolving this conflict. She told reporters that the 40-minute meeting went well. “If the rules of international law are discarded, crises and chaos will multiply,” Meloni said at the forum. She also mentioned that she had conveyed this message to her Chinese counterparts.
Meloni’s office released a statement reaffirming that support for Ukraine is a top priority on the Italian G7 Presidency’s agenda. The statement also addressed the issue of reconstruction ahead of the next Ukraine Recovery Conference, which will be held in Italy in 2025. The two leaders discussed the latest developments on the ground and Ukraine’s most urgent needs ahead of winter.
Meloni’s remarks follow Russian President Vladimir Putin’s statement that India, China, and Brazil could mediate in potential peace talks over Ukraine. Putin mentioned that he is in constant touch with these countries as they are sincerely seeking to resolve the conflict.
Putin’s statement comes months after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Moscow and his recent visit to Ukraine, where he reiterated India’s stance on the ongoing war and stated that India has always been on the side of peace.
