Israel’s Ambassador Reuven Azar recently visited the Indo-Israel Centre of Excellence for Fruits located in Basti, Uttar Pradesh. During his visit, he engaged with local farmers and distributed farming kits. This centre is part of the Indo-Israel Agricultural Project, which focuses on semi-arid horticultural crops.

Focus on Modern Agricultural Technologies

Ambassador Azar inspected the centre’s facilities, including mango saplings grown in controlled environments, nurseries, and seeds. He emphasized the collaboration between India and Israel to utilize modern technologies for improving agricultural production. Azar expressed gratitude to the Uttar Pradesh government for their support in subsidizing efforts to enhance the quality and output of mangoes and vegetables.

Support for Farmers

The centre provides training to 16,000 farmers, with two operational centres in Uttar Pradesh and more being developed. Across India, there are 32 such centres in collaboration with the Indian government.

Meeting with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister

Earlier, Ambassador Azar visited the Ram temple in Ayodhya and met with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. They discussed agriculture, irrigation, and potential Israeli investments in the region.
