Israeli Jets Strike Hezbollah’s Naval Base in Beirut

On October 23, Israeli jets launched an attack on Hezbollah’s main naval base in Beirut, as announced by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). The strike resulted in the destruction of the base’s headquarters, ammunition depots, underground infrastructure, and fast vessels. The IDF stated that these vessels were intended for attacks on Israel’s maritime space.

Prior to the attack, civilians were warned to evacuate the area. Hezbollah, an Iran-backed group, is known for its coastal defense and anti-ship operations. They have been developing unmanned underwater vehicles for covert missions and have launched drone attacks on Israel’s offshore natural gas fields.

Following the Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023, Hezbollah began daily rocket and drone attacks on northern Israel, displacing over 68,000 residents. The attacks have resulted in 59 deaths. Despite United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, which prohibits Hezbollah from operating in southern Lebanon, the group continues its activities.
