Israeli Jets Strike Hezbollah’s Naval Base in Beirut

On October 23, Israeli jets launched an attack on Hezbollah’s main naval base in Beirut, as announced by the Israel Defense Forces. The strike resulted in the destruction of the base’s headquarters, ammunition depots, and fast vessels. Civilians were warned to evacuate the area before the attack.

Hezbollah’s Naval Capabilities

Hezbollah, an Iran-backed group, has been enhancing its naval capabilities for coastal defense and guerrilla-style attacks. The group possesses naval commandos, anti-ship missile systems, and is reportedly developing unmanned underwater vehicles for covert operations. They have also launched drone attacks on Israel’s offshore natural gas fields.

Ongoing Conflict

Following the Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023, Hezbollah has been firing rockets and launching drones at northern Israel communities daily. This has led to the displacement of over 68,000 residents in northern Israel. Hezbollah’s attacks have resulted in 59 casualties. Despite United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, which prohibits Hezbollah from operating in southern Lebanon, the group continues its aggressive actions.
