Israeli Airstrikes Continue in Beirut Amid Ceasefire Talks

In Beirut, Lebanon, the Israeli military has been conducting airstrikes on the city’s suburbs for four consecutive days. These attacks have destroyed five buildings, including one near the Tayouneh intersection. The Israeli military claims the targets were munitions depots and headquarters used by Hezbollah, a Lebanese militant group.

Before the attacks, Israel issued evacuation orders, allowing residents to leave their homes, resulting in no reported casualties. However, human rights organizations have criticized the short notice given to residents.

Hezbollah has retaliated by firing rockets at Israeli soldiers in northern Israel, targeting areas such as Misgav Am and the Yiftah barracks. Diplomatic efforts for a ceasefire are underway, with the US ambassador to Lebanon presenting a proposal to the Lebanese parliament. Officials are hopeful for a positive response from Hezbollah by Monday.

Iran has shown support for Lebanon’s decisions in the truce talks. The conflict has escalated since late September, with Israel aiming to secure the return of displaced Israelis. Over a million Lebanese have fled their homes, creating a humanitarian crisis. Despite heavy losses, including the death of its leader Hassan Nasrallah, Hezbollah continues its attacks. As of now, 3,386 people have been killed and 14,417 wounded in Israeli airstrikes since October 2023.
