Israel Summons Turkish Ambassador Over Mourning of Hamas Leader Ismail Haniyeh
Tel Aviv [Israel], August 2: In response to the Turkish flag being lowered to half-mast at the Turkish Embassy in Tel Aviv after the death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, Israel’s Foreign Minister, Israel Katz, has taken action. He instructed Foreign Ministry officials to summon the Deputy Turkish Ambassador for a severe reprimand.
Katz emphasized that Israel will not tolerate mourning for Haniyeh, whom he described as a murderer responsible for atrocities. He stated, “The State of Israel will not tolerate expressions of mourning for a murderer like Ismail Haniyeh, who led Hamas in committing atrocities on October 7th.”
In a stern message, Katz added, “If the embassy representatives wish to mourn, they should go to Turkey and mourn alongside their master, Erdogan, who embraces the terrorist organization Hamas and supports its acts of murder and terror.”
On Wednesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remarked on recent military actions, stating that Israel has delivered “crushing blows” to its enemies. This came after the deaths of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh and senior Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr.
Additionally, the Israeli army released a video on August 1 showing an airstrike in Gaza that killed Mohammed Deif, the head of Hamas’ military wing, last month. The army confirmed Deif’s death following an intelligence assessment. Hamas has not yet responded to the announcement.
