Israel President Praises Forces for Eliminating Hamas Leader

On October 17, Israel President Isaac Herzog commended the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Shin Bet, and security services for their successful operation against Yahya Sinwar, a key figure behind the deadly October 7 attack last year. Herzog expressed his appreciation on social media, highlighting Sinwar’s role in numerous terrorist acts and the destabilization of the Middle East.
Herzog also stressed the urgency of rescuing 101 hostages still held by Hamas in Gaza. Earlier, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed Sinwar’s death. The IDF reported that during operations in Gaza, three terrorists were eliminated, with Sinwar potentially among them.
This follows the recent elimination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Lebanon. The IDF has also targeted other high-ranking Hamas officials, including Rawhi Mushtaha and Sameh al-Siraj. Recent operations in Jabaliya resulted in the deaths of 20 Hamas operatives and the destruction of a weapons depot.
The conflict began a year ago on October 7, when Hamas launched a significant attack on Israel.
