Israel Disagrees with International Court’s Opinion on Palestinian Territories

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has ruled that Israel’s presence in Palestinian territories is unlawful and must end as soon as possible. The court also stated that Israel should stop building new settlements and remove existing ones.

Oren Marmorstein, spokesperson for Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that Israel rejects the ICJ’s opinion, calling it fundamentally wrong and politically influenced. He emphasized that the opinion is advisory and not legally binding.

Marmorstein criticized the opinion for ignoring the security needs of Israel and the atrocities that occurred on October 7. He also mentioned that the opinion contradicts the principles of peace agreements between Israel and its neighbors, which require direct negotiations.

The ICJ’s opinion pointed out various Israeli policies that violate international law, including settlement expansion, resource use, and discriminatory actions against Palestinians. The court stated that Israel’s actions impede Palestinians’ right to self-determination and that Israel has no right to sovereignty over the territories.

Despite the ICJ’s ruling, Israel maintains that it adheres to international law and will continue to protect its citizens.
