Ishan Kishan Shines with Century in Duleep Trophy for India C
Anantapur (Andhra Pradesh) [India], September 12: Ishan Kishan made a stunning return to first-class cricket by scoring a counterattacking century for India C against India B on day 1 of the second round of matches in the Duleep Trophy. Kishan’s performance helped India C reach 357/5 at the end of day 1.
Originally, Kishan was not part of the revised squads announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He was included in the India C squad on the eve of the match. This game marked Kishan’s first red-ball match since his Test debut in the Caribbean in July 2023. Kishan dominated India B’s bowling line-up, which included Navdeep Saini, Rahul Chahar, and Mukesh Kumar.
Kishan formed a crucial 189-run partnership with Baba Indrajit for the third wicket. While Kishan stood out with his scoring, Indrajit also contributed with a valuable 78-run knock. Kishan’s seventh first-class century included 14 fours and three sixes.
India B’s Mukesh Kumar tried to halt India C’s progress by breaking the 96-run opening stand and dismissing Kishan. He also trapped Abishek Porel (12) in front of the stumps. Saini and Chahar each took a wicket, with Saini dismissing Rajat Patidar (40) and Chahar ending Indrajit’s 78-run innings.
In another match between India A and India D, both teams had their moments on the opening day. Harshit Rana, Vidhwath Kaverappa, and Arshdeep Singh each took two wickets for India D. After a poor start, Shams Mulani’s unbeaten 88 and Tanush Kotian’s 53 helped India A recover from 144/6 to 288/8.
