Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Team Killed in Helicopter Crash Due to Bad Weather
Tehran [Iran], September 2: Iran’s military has confirmed that bad weather, including thick fog, caused the helicopter crash in May 2024 that killed President Ebrahim Raisi and his team. The final report, released on September 1, stated that harsh weather conditions in northwestern Iran were the primary cause of the crash.
President Raisi, along with seven others, including Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, died in the crash on May 19, 2024. Following this tragedy, Masoud Pezeshkian was elected as Iran’s new president in July 2024.
The report mentioned that all documents related to the helicopter’s maintenance and repairs, as well as its flight recorder, were checked. No defects were found, and the helicopter’s flight path was correct. The possibility of the aircraft being targeted by offensive and defensive systems was ruled out.
Experts from the Ministry of Defence thoroughly tested parts and systems from the crashed helicopter, including engines, power transmission systems, fuel systems, and electronic equipment, and found no defects that could have contributed to the crash. Additionally, a forensic committee conducted toxicological and pathological tests on the remains of the victims, with no suspicious findings.
The investigation also ruled out the possibility of sabotage, cyber attacks, or interference from magnetic fields and lasers.
