Iran Condemns Killing of Hamas Leader Yahya Sinwar by Israel

On October 18, Iran expressed strong disapproval of the killing of Yahya Sinwar, a leader of Hamas, by Israeli forces. Iran’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations stated that Sinwar’s final moments would inspire youth and children. The Israeli Defense Force (IDF) announced that Sinwar, responsible for an attack on southern Israel, was killed in Gaza on October 16.

Iran compared Sinwar’s death to the capture of Saddam Hussein, emphasizing Sinwar’s bravery. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed Sinwar’s death, describing it as a significant blow to Hamas. The IDF reported that Sinwar was killed in Rafah, carrying a flak jacket, a gun, and 40,000 shekels. The IDF had been tracking him for months, linking him to a tunnel near a site where hostages were killed.

Following Sinwar’s death, Hezbollah in Lebanon announced plans to escalate its confrontation with Israel. The situation remains tense as Israel continues to search for other Hamas leaders.
