Iran and Israel Engage in Air Defense and Strikes Amid Rising Tensions

On October 26, Iran’s air defense systems were activated in central Tehran due to escalating attacks by Israel. The Iranian state news agency, IRNA, reported that Iran successfully intercepted “adversarial targets” in Tehran’s airspace. Loud noises resembling explosions were heard in the capital, though their sources remain unverified. An Iranian military official confirmed that air defense systems were used to prevent attacks on three locations near Tehran.

Meanwhile, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) announced precise strikes on Iranian military targets. This action follows Iran’s launch of approximately 200 ballistic missiles towards Israel a month prior. IDF spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari stated that these operations are a response to Iran’s continued attacks on Israel. The IDF emphasized its right and duty to respond to the “relentless attacks” from Iran and its proxies since October 7.

The IDF assured that its defensive and offensive capabilities are fully mobilized to protect Israel. The White House confirmed Israel’s targeted strikes as part of its self-defense rights, following Iran’s missile attack on October 1. Senior American officials noted that Israel informed the White House about the strikes in advance. The ongoing conflict in West Asia has persisted since Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7 last year.
