The Indian Premier League (IPL) is gearing up for its 2025 season with the release of the franchises’ retention list. This list marks the beginning of the excitement and anticipation that the league brings each year. Teams have until October 31 to finalize their retained players ahead of the mega auction.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

CSK plans to retain five-time champion MS Dhoni, along with Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, Shivam Dube, and Matheesha Pathirana. The team is expected to spend Rs 65 crores from their Rs 120 crore budget.

Gujarat Titans (GT)

The 2022 champions are likely to keep Shubman Gill, Rashid Khan, B Sai Sudharsan, Rahul Tewatia, and Shahrukh Khan, leaving them with one Right to Match (RTM) option.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)

KKR plans to retain Sunil Narine, Rinku Singh, Harshit Rana, and Varun Chakravarthy. Surprisingly, Shreyas Iyer and Andre Russell may not be retained.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)

LSG’s top retention is Nicholas Pooran, along with Mayank Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi. Mohsin Khan and Ayush Badoni are also set to stay, but KL Rahul might not be retained.

Rajasthan Royals (RR)

RR will retain Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Riyan Parag, and Sandeep Sharma. However, Jos Buttler and Yuzvendra Chahal are not on the list.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

SRH’s top pick is Heinrich Klaasen, with Pat Cummins and Abhishek Sharma also retained. Travis Head and Nitish Kumar Reddy complete their list.

Retention Rules and Salary Cap

Each team can retain six players, with a maximum of five capped and two uncapped. The auction purse is set at Rs 120 crore, with a total salary cap of Rs 146 crore for 2025. A new match fee of Rs 7.5 lakhs per match has been introduced for players.
