Inzamam ul Haq Accuses Arshdeep Singh of Ball-Tampering in T20 World Cup

Former Pakistan captain Inzamam ul Haq has raised allegations of ball-tampering against Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh. Arshdeep delivered a match-winning performance of 3/37 during the ICC T20 World Cup Super Eights clash against Australia. Inzamam questioned how Arshdeep was able to reverse-swing the ball in the 16th over while defending the target.

During the ongoing T20 World Cup, Arshdeep is the joint-highest wicket-taker with 15 wickets in six games, averaging 11.86 with an economy rate of 7.41. His best figures are 4/9, tying him with Afghanistan’s Fazalhaq Farooqi for the most wickets in the competition.

In a talk show on a Pakistan news channel, Inzamam said, “Arshdeep Singh, when he was bowling the 16th over, the ball was reversing. Is it too early for reverse swing with a relatively new ball? This means the ball was ready for reverse swing by the 12th or 13th over. Umpires should keep their eyes open to spot these things.”

In the same show, Inzamam’s former teammate Salim Malik accused the International Cricket Council (ICC) of “keeping their eyes shut” for certain teams. Malik said, “Eyes are kept shut when it comes to some teams, and India is one of those teams. I remember in Zimbabwe, when Wasim Akram was bowling, he made it wet, and we all were surprised at it. When I complained, I was fined heavily.”

Inzamam added that if a Pakistani bowler had found reverse swing this early, it would have caused a big issue. He alleged that some “serious work” was done to the ball during the India-Australia clash.

India’s Rohit Sharma scored 92, helping India put up 205/5 on the board. Australia was restricted to 181/7 in their 20 overs despite Travis Head’s 76 off 43 balls. After Bangladesh’s loss to Afghanistan, Australia was eliminated from the tournament. India will next face England in the semifinals at Guyana on Thursday.
