Investigation Underway After Mysuru-Darbhanga Express Derails in Tamil Nadu

On October 11, 2024, the Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express derailed at Kavaraipettai Railway Station in Tamil Nadu after colliding with a stationary goods train. An investigation team arrived on October 12 to assess the situation. Fortunately, there were no fatalities, though some passengers sustained minor injuries. Southern Railway General Manager RN Singh assured that restoration would be completed by night.

Rescue and Recovery Efforts

All passengers were rescued and either transported to Chennai Central for a special train to Darbhanga or taken to hospitals. Three seriously injured passengers were admitted to Stanley Medical College Hospital, while four with minor injuries received treatment at Ponneri Government Hospital. Ex-Gratia payments were provided to the injured.

Passenger Assistance

Stranded passengers were moved by buses and EMU Specials to Ponneri and Chennai Central. At Chennai Central, they underwent medical checkups, received food and water, and boarded a special train to Darbhanga. The train departed at 4:45 AM.

Ongoing Investigation

A high-level enquiry has been initiated by the Railway to determine the cause of the accident. The incident led to the rescheduling and diversion of several trains.
