International Travel for Indians Surges by 14% in 2024: Nuvama Report
In the first half of 2024, international travel for Indians grew by 14% year-on-year, according to a Nuvama report on premium outbound cohort’s travel trends. This growth is higher than the pre-COVID growth rate of 12% for the same period in 2019.
The report indicates a shift towards premium travel experiences, with more Indians opting for business-class flights and higher travel budgets. According to Makemytrip, 55% of international travel is now for leisure, with a significant increase in people taking multiple trips.
Spontaneous travel bookings account for around 50% of international trips, with destinations like Oman, UAE, Qatar, Nepal, and Azerbaijan becoming popular for last-minute getaways. European and Canadian trips are usually planned well in advance.
Delhi and Mumbai remain the top departure points for international flights due to their excellent connectivity. The surge in outbound travel has also led to a 24% rise in hotel occupancy rates.
