India’s Stock Markets Open Flat Amid Global Pressure from Nvidia Results

India’s stock markets opened with mixed results today. The Nifty 50 index fell by 17 points, or 0.07%, to 25,035.30 points, while the Sensex saw a minor gain of 35 points, or 0.05%, to 81,822.56 points.

Globally, stock markets are under pressure after Nvidia’s quarterly results disappointed some investors. Despite good results, Nvidia’s management guidance led to a decline in AI and semiconductor stocks. Ajay Bagga, a Banking and Market Expert, noted that Nvidia’s guidance has caused a downturn in Asian markets, with MSCI Asia down 0.5% and Nvidia itself down 8% in U.S. after-market trading.

In India, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) had a net cash outflow on Wednesday. Bagga expects the market to consolidate and attempt to break out from its all-time high levels. The IT sector may see some profit booking due to Nvidia’s below-expectation guidance.

On the National Stock Exchange, sectoral indices like Nifty Bank, Nifty Auto, Nifty IT, and Nifty FMCG opened in red, while Nifty Financial Services, Nifty Pharma, and Nifty Media gained. The Nifty Next 50 and Nifty Small Cap 100 saw minor gains of 0.6%.

Top gainers in the Nifty 50 included Cipla, Apollo Hospital, and Sun Pharma. In Asian markets, Japan’s Nikkei index fell by 0.45%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index declined by 0.55%, and Taiwan’s Taiwan Weighted Index dropped by 1.32%, making it the largest loser among major Asian markets. The decline in Asian markets followed a downturn in U.S. markets, where both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq indices fell due to profit-taking and Nvidia’s results.
